savandurga hills history

The Savandurga hills were home to a medieval community around 2000 years ago. Recently, megalithic burial urns with bones, copper coins, and terracotta pots were discovered at the site. Samantha Raya, an official in the Vijayanagar Empire, built this fort in 1543, according to the Imperial Gazetteer of India. The fort and the Magadi district were acquired by the chief of Bangalore in 1570. The region functioned as a supplementary headquarters for the Magadi monarchs, particularly Kempegowda.

The winter season is the optimal opportunity to experience Savandurga Hills since it allows for full-day trips around and up the hills without being affected by the weather. However, the location can be visited at any time of year. This location is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., during this time tourists can either tour the temples or engage in adventure sports. Kempegowda established Magadi as the capital of his domains. Kempegowda and his successors governed the Magadi region for nearly ninety years, including Magadi town, where Kempegowda II built a fort that housed his administration's offices and the stone stronghold of Savanadurga. To reach there, one must take a bus to Magadi road, then another bus to the Magadi road junction. Buses to Savandurga are available from there. Tourists can indulge their adventurous spirit by trekking, rock climbing, or biking-hiking these routes.
